This job has been coined “The Perfect Remodel,” both when we simply talk about this job, and also on my blog site. We took a 35 year old ranch-style house that was very cut up, dark, low ceilinged, square, and just funky, and turned it into the most lovely, curvaceous, flowing, sunny and bright and beautiful home you ever saw.
The first thing we did was reconfigure nearly all the walls in the house in order to “open it up.” There were too many walls blocking too much light. We added windows and replaced every window and door in the house. We ripped out all the carpets and patched in, added, and refinished hardwood floors throughout. We took a ceiling over the living room and cut a huge circle into it, thus expanding the ceiling height into the second story, and by adding a huge window above the circular opening, the expansiveness and light just overflows the whole downstairs. We custom-built our own curved handrail around the circular opening and refashioned the stairs. We added new closets and custom shelving in all closets, added in two new sliding glass doors leading out to a beautiful new and curvaceous deck, and repainted all the existing kitchen cabinetry to give the kitchen a whole new look. New appliances too. We also ended up moving their laundry room from upstairs to the downstairs, which is where the lady of the house wanted it. With the reconfiguration of so many walls, we also had to reconfigure a bunch of electric, a bunch of mechanical ductwork, and some plumbing. But an incredible success it was and is!
